Nikon EN-EL9 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery for Nikon D40 and D40x Digital SLR Cameras Review

Nikon EN-EL9 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery for Nikon D40 and D40x Digital SLR Cameras

I liked the price on amazon, so I bought this Nikon brand battery for my new Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. So far, so good. The battery charges fairly fast and lasts a long time.
I'm a firm believer in having at least one extra rechargeable battery for a digital camera. If you take a lot of pictures, you have a good chance of your battery running low while you're out and about. If you don't use the camera often, you might take it to a special occasion without realizing that the battery's getting low. In either case, having a spare fully charged battery will help you avoid the frustration of having a dead camera at the wrong time and place.
I'm okay with paying a few extra bucks for the Nikon branded battery, based on my experience with two "no-name" rechargeables I bought a few years ago for my Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera. The "no-names" cost less than the Nikon brand battery. They charged up and worked just fine at first, and I rotated all 3 batteries through the camera, with roughly equal amounts of use and recharge cycles for the batteries. All rechargeable batteries eventually lose their ability to hold a charge, after going through a number of charge/discharge cycles. In the case of the Coolpix camera, the original Nikon battery outlasted both of the "no-name" generic batteries.
So based on my experience with those batteries, I'm sticking with the Nikon brand for the extra battery for my D40x, because I expect it to last through more charge/discharge cycles over its lifetime than a generic (and cheaper) equivalent battery.

I bought this adapter because I wanted to take photos with my Nikon D70s for use as time lapse movies, and because the battery won't hold out over a whole day for this purpose. Using gphoto2, I hooked my camera up to an Ubuntu box via USB, and wrote a bash script to take a picture every 60 seconds, starting at 6am. This adapter allowed the camera to be powered all day long from 6am to 6pm without interruption.
One important thing to note, is that although the photo shows only the power brick and the cord with the special Nikon camera power plug on it, this product DOES come with another cord that attaches the power brick to the wall.
I would have given this 5 stars, but I think the pricing is outrageous. The only part of this product that is "special" is the plug that fits into the camera. The rest (power brick, power cord) is just generic, and probably very cheap to produce. However, for powering your Nikon DSLR camera, there doesn't seem to be any alternative.

I'm always looking for products that will work internationally - this adapts automatically to different voltages, and seems to charge my batteries efficiently.
The cable is separate, so if you want to get a short one for travel, you can.
I use it for my D50 and D200 - no issues at all.

I don't expect to have anything at all go wrong with this type of an
accessory and so far it works great.
For me the ability to have the second battery online alone would justify the cost. My grip rarely comes off because I like the added size, weight and feel much more with it mounted than I do using the camera alone. In particular when using a Nikkor zoom or even the 105mm micro. Just balances everything out very nicely and gives me a more secure feeling holding the camera.
Note that it has a slot to store your battery compartment cover from the D200 that keeps that piece secure and easy to find when you decide to use the camera without this attachement.
That is one example of the thought Nikon put into this grip. Another would be the AF button and shutter release placed just where you need them for vertical capture.
People have asked so I might as well mention that I feel just as secure mounting this unit to the tripod as I would mounting the camera directly.
Great menu interface! You get seperate readings for each when you access Battery Info via the Set Up menu. Information displayed includes the percentage of charge for each unit plus the overall status of each battery. Status being indicated by the left to right scale showing overall condition by a needle wavering in between New and Replace. Above that and on the same screen are a L and R column for each slot showing percentage of battery power left. You also get a number representing how many shots have been taken with each battery!
Something to think about before you write a review about the battery and claim others lack understanding!
Included is a plastic tray that accepts eight various AAA batteries for use when the stock EN-EL3e units you use are drained. This is for when you just have to keep shooting. The way I use this tray is to carry spare batteries most likely intended for the SB800 flash unit. It does that job very well!
Good luck!

Before purchasing this I looked at it in a local store. Bag was just like the photo shown here on Amazon. Price at the local store was $99. So, I bought one from Amazon for $60. Was excited, even with the free Super Saver shipping I got it 2 days later! Then I opened the box, and found the bag was not as shown, or as I saw it in the local store. The bag is black with a yellow trim piece. It is a square bag with SMALL side pockets. Useless. Don't know if they are shipping an old version or a newer version, but its not what's shown and not what's in stores. I returned mine.
UPDATED: The photo now shown is the correct photo of what they send you. Still confused why this kit in the stores (with same model number) has a bigger and nicer bag. Never-the-less, the bag shown here is too small and useless for the D40 with any accessories or additional lenses.

NIKON MB-D100 Multifunction Battery Pack for Nikon D100 Digital SLR Review

NIKON MB-D100 Multifunction Battery Pack for Nikon D100 Digital SLR

If you have large hands and don't like the lack of support on the bottom of the camera, this grip will enhance your hold on the camera and give you a secure vertical grip with a second shutter release. Both control wheels are present and in the same relative position as the main body when used in vertical mode. A lock switch will prevent you from accidentally taking a shot by hitting the release with the palm of your hand, which happens to me frequently. The grip also adds a 10-pin terminal, which the D100 body doesn't have, so you can use your old remote release accessories.
The built-in audio recorder is handy for keeping track of subject names when you don't have time to take notes and the audio is stored as a MP3 file on the card. If you use iPhoto you'll need to keep track of the audio files manually, but if you keep your photos organized in Nikon's Nikon View the audio is attached to the picture and ready to play for you at the touch of a button.
The grip lacks a separate focus area selector; it's incorporated into the AE-L/AF-L button which can be clumsy and hard to use under pressure. I would have also liked to see a sensor in the grip that automatically rotates vertical images so you don't have to do it in software, but that feature is not available.
The ability to use two EN-EL3 is very nice and gives you great shooting capacity, but you can also use it with a single battery just fine. I've tried using rechargeable AAs, but even freshly charged ones show up as half dead on the camera's meter. All the rechargeable AAs I've come across are 1.2V instead of the standard 1.5, so they aren't really suitable for this power-hungry camera.
I was worried it wouldn't properly fit my AH-4 handstrap, but the fit is perfect. It actually seems more comfortable than it did with my old N90/grip. The camera is very tall when mounted on a tripod and there is more flex than I would like to see. If you're using a heavy lens without a tripod collar, you might want to remove the vertical grip to reduce camera shake.

Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for Nikon D300 & D700 Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Packaging) Review

Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for Nikon D300 and D700 Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Packaging)
Average Reviews:

When using the MB-D10 with the D300, you will find that it is a great improvement from the MB-D200 (the D200 vertical grip). For one, it is made of magnesium alloy, and is much sturdier. It is also weather sealed like the D300 body. It fits nicely and firmly with the D300. It also has an additional multi selector, which is a great added feature. The MS-D10 (holder for AA batteries) also comes in a very nice pouch. Of course with such improvement comes the price increase as well!
If you want to achieve 8fps on your D300, you can use the EN-EL4/a battery with your MB-D10 or AA batteries (8 pieces). The ability to use AA batteries is a real plus point. Imagine having a long trip where you may not have access to charge your EN-EL3e batteries. Having the ability to use AA batteries means that you can carry a bunch of them and still be able to shoot... even deep in the wilderness.
Another advantage of the MB-D10 is that it is not L-shaped, which means that you can easily slip it into your camera bag and pull it out when you need it. To mount the grip, you do not need to remove the battery from your camera and marry the grip to the camera as how the D200+MB-D200 was designed to. It does not take as much space and not as awkward as grips that are L-shaped. This is a versatility of the MB-D10, but also has some getting used to.
Here are some areas which either you like or hate or take some getting use to:
1. The battery in the camera need not be removed to use the grip. So for those who leave the grip on all the time and want to use 2 batteries at a time, it would mean that you would need to remove the grip each time you want to remove the battery in the camera. It would be nice to be able to swap both batteries without having to remove the grip, but the design is such and we would have to live with it. What I've decided to do is to remove the battery in the camera and just use the one in the MB-D10. Besides, you can get a lot more shots with the D300 than the D200 for the same battery charge.
2. The shutter release button on the MB-D10 is a bit too sensitive, which means that you can quite easily trigger the shot. The sensitivity between the shutter-release button on the camera and the grip is different, so when switching orientation of the camera, you'll need to be aware of the sensitivity so that you do not accidentally take a shot which you did not mean to do so.
3. The MB-D10 can take the EN-EL4/a battery. However, the battery chamber cover for the EN-EL4/a is not part of the package, and you would need to purchase it separately. The battery chamber cover is BL-3.

Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for D200, D300, D700 and D80 Digital SLR Cameras Review

Nikon EN-EL3e Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for D200, D300, D700 and D80 Digital SLR Cameras
Average Reviews:

To begin with, if you're looking at this battery, you might have a D200. If so, you have no choice in the matter. Whether it's 1 star or 5, if you don't buy this battery you have a $1,700 paperweight (and yes, I'm the proud owner of a D200 in non-paperweight mode).
Second, the battery is not what's at fault here. The D200 is an energy monster. It sucks these poor little guys dry like a starved man at a all-you-can-eat. (This is the price of the incredible functionality offered by the D200. If you want longer bettery life, you'll have to give up MUCH of what makes the D200 the powerhouse it is.) The EL3e performs wonderfullly in the D70/50, providing slightly longer life than the recalled EL3a (the third contact on the EL3e is for the D200 only. The 70 & 50 both ignore it).
Bottom line: There is nothing wrong with this battery. If you have a D70 or D50, buy with the assurance it will take many, many shots on a single charge. If you have a D200, buy because you have to then realize that *you* determine how long the battery lives. A VR lens will cut an already "short" battery life even more. So, you can complain about the battery being the issue or the D200 being the issue. Only the latter is correct. If you want long battery life, go back to the D70.
Personal rant: The D200 is worth the reduced battery life in so many ways that I'm actually annoyed with those that complain about this. Sure, the battery could last longer, but why stop there? I'D like 20Mp, ISO speeds to 3200 with no noise at all, a 10-400mm VR lens tack sharp at all apertures with f/1.4 throughout. But you know what? Not gonna happen. The D200 provides FAR more capability than what you actually paid for (just ask D2X users), so stop whining about short battery life. There's no such thing as the perfect camera. The D200 comes so close, however, it's almost sacriligious to whine about it. By all means, let's teach Nikon a lesson! How dare they give us this camera at 2/3 of what they could *easily* sell it for and not give us 800 RAW's/charge? >:(
And FWIW, you most certainly CAN get 1800 JPG's from one charge, You just have to do it like Nikon did. Yes, their tests are unrealistic in that respect, but if you're so upset about it, return the camera and let someone who will appreciate it have their turn...
PS To "Dwarfbug" why did you give the *battery* 2 stars? These reviews are exactly that: reviews. Speak about the product in question. Don't just respond to someone's review and drop 2 stars with no explanation why. And also speak about something you know. There is no recall on the D200. There is a recall on the EN-EL3 which will not work in the D200 anyway. It is a D50/D70 battery and is replaced with either the EN-EL3a or the EN-EL3e (the "e" being a pretty sweet deal (some even resell them to D200 users a buy TWO 3rd party EN-EL3a's (Targus, etc))).

Not sure how much you can say here... It's a Nikon battery. I've bought off-brand batteries before and had bad luck. So, I won't do that again. Bought this one as a backup for my D5000. A backup battery, in my mind, is a must have item. I can't tell you how many times I've been taking photos and found the battery to be running low. This is a very nice accessory for the D80 camera. The main deal with it is that you can either equip it with two D80 batteries, or you can use it to power your D80 with several AA batteries--a nice thing to be able to do in a pinch.
The MB-D80 is built from strong impact plastic of the same time of which the D80 is made. This makes it relatively light, which is nice. You can add this to the D80 without making your camera unduly heavy and unpleasant to carry. And having two batteries rather than one is nice when one is taking a lot of pictures in locales where it is not convenient to recharge one's batteries frequently. And I like the shape of the MB-D80--it provides a nice shape and heft that makes the D80 more nifty to hold. Portrait shooters will appreciate the extra command dials and the vertical shutter release.
The thing that I especially like about the MB-D80 is that it provides the D80 with metering for each battery; one can see precisely the status of the batteries in the D80 when using this grip.
Overall, many serious D80 photographers will enjoy and appreciate this fine accessory.

The Nikon D3000 is an incredible product and I would buy it again in a flash! But not from Cameta Camera. Buyers deciding between buying the parts of the bundle should be aware of exactly what the bundle contains.
The product title indicates "EN-EL9a Battery" is included. The product description indicates "All Brand New Items with all Manufacturer-supplied Accessories". The technical details say "Spare EN-EL9a High Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery Pack". "EN-EL9a" is a Nikon brand product code, and the product retails for $40+ on Amazon.com.
BUT...the actual product shipped by Cameta Camera is "ACD-273 REPLACEMENT FOR NIKON EN-EL9/EN-EL9a", an aftermarket battery valued at a small fraction of the Nikon battery.
I would never have purchased this bundle had I known it came with an aftermarket battery with far less value. In fact I reviewed the product information carefully and confirmed that it was a Nikon EN-EL9a battery before placing my order. Cameta offered a feeble refund of $3, which I rejected because it wasn't worth my time. Customer service was poor. I am regretful for ordering this bundle, as I could have gotten better value and better service by buying the Nikon D3000 elsewhere.
The camera bag is Nikon-branded and high quality. It is on the large side and more suitable for use with 2-3 lenses than with just one. I would recommend a smaller bag if you're just using one lens.
The DVDs are also Nikon-branded and they are great. These are a great way to get started and I recommend them highly. You can buy them separately here: Nikon School DVD, Fast Fun and Easy IV: Great Digital SLR Pictures - Featuring the Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera, Nikon School DVD - Understanding Digital Photography
The cleaning kit is just a set of low-quality plastic pieces that I am not likely to use.
