(More customer reviews)This diopter (close-up) eyepiece does magnify the viewfinder image. For my (64-year old) eyes, it adds a tiny distortion. I can remove most of the distortion with my D80's diopter adjustment but it is at one end of its range and I can't quite remove it all. Nevertheless, I like it enough that I've left the diopter installed on my D80.
