(More customer reviews)I like this screen a lot. By rights it should have probably shipped as the default with the D3. It took me about 5-10 minutes to install this just going by some rough instructions on the internet. It's not too complicated to figure out, which I like. (Just mind the dust!)
The reason I bought this, though, was because I was lead to believe it would be easier to focus my lenses manually than the default screen, especially in darkly lit rooms. And so far, I'm not really getting that. If there's an advantage it's pretty slim.
But it works well, the grid lines are a welcomed bonus, and don't interfere at all. The red square still lights up red and brightly in the viewfinder to help me see what I'm focusing on -- nothing is taken away with this screen; more is added in a very unobtrusive way.
The one criticism everyone seems to give is that the grid lines don't light up like they did in the D200/D300. And I wish they did, but hey, they still function and they're useful.
In summary, I like it and I feel it was worth the cost even though it doesn't really serve me the way I'd hoped.
PROS: Helps with composition, unobtrusive grid lines, easy to install, not a big investment
CONS: Doesn't really help with manual focusing, grid lines don't light up
